Internet Gambling Law
Internet gambling is become a challenge for legislature.
Gambling is itself a controversial subject and law
regarding gambling is always big concern for
legislature. Gambling industry always tries to find out
some new technology on gambling activity and invention
of Internet gives them a new dimension on way of playing
gambling. Today popularity of online gambling is more
than land-based casino. There are so many reasons for
increasing demand of online gambling. Online gambling is
now a million dollar industry. There are near about 1800
sites on Internet where you can play online gambling.
But interestingly, only four hundred sites are
registered over Internet. Online casino is also a more
profit making business compare to offline casino.
Though Internet gambling gains popularity within a short
period of time but it has so many disadvantages.
Gambling addiction rate is quite more in online
gambling. Online gambler more frequently addicted with
gambling then offline gambler due to following reasons:
-
The ability to gamble 24 hours in a day from home.
-
The decreases in the
perception of the value of cash - i.e. players are
forgetting that they are spending money.
-
Easy accessibility.
-
Lack of clear/applicable statute.
Basically youth are easily addicted with online gambling
as they are habitual with surfing Internet. They are
also curious about illegal things.
Now it is very necessary to put some restriction on
online gambling, otherwise it will squeeze our younger
generation. Though we all aware with adverse effects of
online gambling but it is very difficult to stop
Internet gambling. The law regarding online gambling is
not well defined and implementation of such law is
difficult due to technicalities.
Though Internet gambling is not legal but it is
difficult to prevent someone gambling online. Gambling
crazy people can gamble through Internet from any site
around the world. If online gambling is illegal in one
state then people of that can gamble on websites based
in another land and law unable to prevent them.
On
Internet however, legal gambling is also difficult to
implement. As we know the minimum age for gambling is 18
years, but how do you find the age of a gambler on
Internet. Therefore lawmakers become confused when they
are drafting any law for online gambling.
Internet gambling
law is, therefore, not clear anywhere and to make it
effective there must be some uniform law in everywhere
around the world. Hence its totally depends upon the
citizen as how they accept the new forms of gambling.
You can welcome Internet gambling either your favorite
leisure activity or your earning opportunity.
